our mission:

To reduce and prevent LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness in Dallas and its surrounding counties

OUR VISION:

To see the systemic problems of LGBTQ youth homelessness radically changed.

Outlast Youth exists to reduce and prevent LGBTQ youth homelessness in Dallas and surrounding counties.

According to service providers, an estimated 20-40% of youth experiencing homelessness identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer, LGBTQ, while only 7-10% of the general youth population identifies as such (Ray, N., 2006). As a result, under the direction of the City of Dallas' LGBT Task Force, chaired by DMPT Adam Medrano, local organizations joined efforts to reduce and prevent LGBTQ youth homelessness in Dallas and surrounding communities.

OUR HOW:

Any good cause is just a cause without the work. We aim to manifest our mission and vision by doing the following:

COLLABORATION

Our committed partners are listed here. We collaborate with each of them to build bridges within interfaith communities, heal the wounds of past hurts and dig deep to the systemic roots of this issue.

Advocacy

We are running an ongoing awareness campaign, launched January 20, 2017, to educate people that there is a problem but there are active ways to get involved and fix it.

EDUCATION

Many do not know the reasons youth homelessness, and specifically LGBTQ youth homelessness, exists. Through workshops, talks, events and cultural competency trainings for homeless service providers, we aim to educate folks on the issue in our backyard.
